Food, glorious food! Two great meals at Fid Kitchen & Il Trullo

For my birthday last month I was treated to a few amazing dinners! One, I managed to take lots of photos…the other, I was so entranced in the food and company that the phone was placed aside so I could enjoy a night of dining and celebration.

Fid Kitchen:

Myself and a few girlfriends who all had birthdays that month, celebrated with a delicious supper catered by Dennis of FID Kitchen. If you’ve never had a meal prepared by Dennis before, you are completely missing out!!!

While Fid Resto (formerly located on Dresden Row) closed its doors a few years ago, Fid Kitchen continues to cater for various events bringing their amazing dishes to the table. Along with his catering gigs, Dennis offers Pad Thai delivery most Fridays at lunch and supper, and he and his wife Monica can be found at the Dragon booth on most weekends at the Historic Brewery Market in Halifax. (Contact fidresto2@gmail.com to join their mailing list or find out about catering, and follow them on Facebook or Twitter for more information).

Suffice it to say we ate the most amazing Thai Food, the most delicious salad and a wonderful chocolate dessert. As well, we drank lots of wine in the comfort of our friend’s home…which is absolutely one of the best parts of having a meal catered in!

Global domination. We’re at Hubbard’s and the Brewery today. Get your Pad Thai fix!

Il Trullo:

As if I wasn’t already pleasantly stuffed and reeling in the glory of spending time with friends and a sore belly from laughing far too much over the most ridiculous things…the next day, myself and two girlfriends headed over the bridge to Il Trullo Ristorante for an absolute treat!

Opened last August, I met one of the owners, Giuesseppe, who was delighted that we appreciated the restaurant. Overlooking the water at King’s Wharf, with a beautiful patio…the atmosphere was new and modern and absolutely stunning (and I plan on going back to sit on the deck when the weather is warm!) In fact, I’m thinking it’s the perfect opportunity to take the Harbour Water Taxi from Halifax and enjoy a full evening…as the boat takes you to the dock right in front of the restaurant!

The food, the presentation…it was all to die for and as one item after the next came out…I wasn’t quite sure where we’d find room for it all…but we did!

We started with the most wonderful spinach salad that came complete with goat cheese, peaches and candied pecans. It was fresh and wonderful and presented in such a fabulous way!

Following that, the most delicious chicken pizza with caramelized onions arrived at our table. Enough for two (or three) to share. The pizza is one of the best I’ve ever had…the flat crust made to perfection and so flat in fact, that you cut the slices with scissors!!! It was fantastic.

Stuffed but not completely done in, we took a look at their dessert menu and there were two levels of desserts. Standard sized desserts (that sounded delicious) and bite sized desserts for those who are just looking for a sample.

I opted for two bit-sized desserts and was completely taken with the macaron and caramel tart on my plate…almost too pretty to eat! But not quite!

I love discovering new places to eat and both Fid Kitchen (Dragon @ the Brewery Market) and Il Trullo…are absolutely wonderful down to the very last spoonful…it won’t be long before I’m visiting again!

If you haven’t yet, make sure to add them to your dining list and follow them on social media to stay on top of all of the news.

What are your favourite restaurants…I’m always looking for a great place to try!

  1. I love that you celebrated your birthday with friends all together – twice. That’s so cool.

I’ve never tried either of these places – though I have heard a lot about both. They sound delicious!

I guess I’ll *have* to try them one of these days.

Great photos! The space looks so cozy and nice. Love the wall o’wine. 😀

  2. They both sound – and look – delicious! Especially that pizza, I’m a sucker for a really good, gourmet pizza. PS Dennis is a friend of my husband’s! If you see him again, be sure to ask him about the “Tour de France” he went on with Ed and a bunch of other guys a few years ago 🙂 My husband still talks about the food Dennis prepared for them.
