Wednesday Wish List 2023 – Week 1

About this Post: Each Wednesday leading up to the holidays, I’ll be sharing some of my favourite items from amazing local shops! Make sure you click on the links to see what else these fabulous companies have in store and online, and pop by to say hello!

Here we go again with year three of our Wednesday Wish Lists! Once again, I’m sharing my favourite things from some fabulous local small businesses…some I’ve featured before and others who are brand new to the Wish List. Make sure to follow the links provided and spend a bit of time perusing websites and social media, to see what some of our local shops have curated for their holiday line-up!

And… your present to me, is to give each one a follow!

Each week, I’ll share with you something cozy, something shiny, something to wear, something tasty, something that makes me smile, and something for the home. These are the categories I love to see under my tree and gift to others!

SOMETHING COZY:

As the cold weather arrives and settles in, let’s start with something cozy! I’ve been wanting a pair of Lismore Wool slippers from the moment I first saw them! I mean seriously, who doesn’t want to slip their toes into a white furry puffy cloud on a blustery day?

Lismore Sheep Farm is a family owned farm with 180 sheep and a herd of Highland cows. They can be found at the Halifax Seaport Market, other markets throughout the year and especially throughout the holidays, and through their online shop.

They sell everything to do with sheep… and wool…. and things you make from wool.

SOMETHING SHINY:

I’m not sure you can find anything “shinier” than a lit candle… except maybe for two best friends who started a company together and are a shining example of how to make both friendship and business work!

Becks, Jess and their beautiful products can be found just about everywhere these days… from markets to magazines and everything in between! Catch them this holiday season at the Evergreen Market, Glow Gardens, and various local markets (check out their market schedule on their instagram page.). Make sure to visit this fabulous duo… smell their beautiful products, and tell them I said hello!

SOMETHING TASTY:

If you follow my Instagram stories you may have noticed me diving into my Advent Calendar from Rousseau Chocolate a solid month earlier than I was supposed to because CHOCOLATE!!

While the calendars are definitely a hit, I’ve moved on to these festive trees filled with Swiss Meringues… the perfect hostess gift!

Rousseau Chocolatier is a great place to stop for a hot drink and a delicious treat. Bring the kids, a friend, a date… or drop in by yourself while you’re visiting the fabulous shops in downtown Halifax while holiday shopping.

SOMETHING FUNNY:

From their home in Newfoundland, my Aunt Mary Lou and Uncle Don make beautiful stained glass pieces. I’ve been lucky enough to receive a few of their pieces through the years and treasure each one.

One of my favourite pieces in their shop currently are their “clothes line” pieces.. and now this year, they’ve added an ELF clothesline!

Give them a Facebook Follow or email them if there’s a stained glass piece you’d like designed!

SOMETHING TO WEAR:

If amazing customer service and fabulous, attentive staff is your thing, then look no further than PhitCetera Sustainable Fashion in Larry Uteck!

There are tons of things in store from holiday fashion, hostess gifts, everyday styles… and, they also carry a mens line! In fact, one of my favourite pieces in the shop at the moment is this Skull Printed Shirt by Stone Rose.

If you’ve never been, make a point to drop in, look around and say hello. You’ll be amazing by this beautiful shop and the people within.

SOMETHING FOR THE HOUSE:

While Kept shop is FILLED TO THE BRIM with gifts and holiday decor, I absolutely love these Hand Woven Bankuan Cone Trees. They come in a few different styles and sizes making it hard to pick just one!

Located on King Street in Dartmouth, Kept Shop is a MUST VISIT store to get you in the holiday spirit as everywhere you look is a treat to the senses! You’ll surely find treasures inside!

  • Shop online at Kept Shop
  • Visit them at 75 King Street, Dartmouth (or 805 Main in Moncton)
  • Follow on Instagram @keptshop

SOMETHING FROM ME:

Having lived in Nova Scotia now for 45 years, I’ve accumulated a list of some of my favourite places to visit, things to do, food to eat, traditions to discover… and I’ve included it all in this 11×14 print titled Things We Love About Nova Scotia.

Perfect for the cottage, an airbnb, for a proud Nova Scotian, or someone who’s moved away!

Send me a message for more information or if you’d like to purchase an unframed print. You can follow my graphic design shop on Instagram at Drawbridge Creative, or my blog on Instagram at Queen of Curtains.

ALL DONE BUT THE WRAPPING!

I love sharing these Wednesday Wish Lists that showcase local shops that are the heart of our community. While I’ve picked out my favourite things, there are many more items in store for you to explore! Head back up to the links and do a little online shopping, make a point to visit their stores in person, and make sure to follow on social media!!!

Happy Holidays!
Colleen
