Don’t make me come back there…

As all vacations go…I was happy to finally get home. We eventually found the Confederations Bridge (which would have been funnier it they’d called it “Span of Green Cables”) but not before we’d enjoyed a few days on the island.

We visited Ripley’s Believe it or Not, Wax World of the StarsSandspit, Shining Waters and Brackley Beach (with a stop at The Dunes to see some amazing art).  We saw Anne’s house at Green Gables and had a fantastic time at the Anne of Green Gables musical at the Confederation Centre. It was a whirlwind five days with nothing missed except a few misplaced road signs.

Money flowed from my wallet like the water down the slide at Shining Waters…which, by the way, should not be called a water park as it doesn’t have a pool or a lazy river ride!

The kids seemed to thoroughly enjoy themselves. Pictures show smiling faces and pleasant moments. We ate in restaurants for all meals and we managed to go to a different restaurant each night. We had a great meal at Rachel’s and so-so meals at The Sandbox and Chez Yvonne’s. I was never so happy to get home to Mom’s pork chops and mashed potatoes (with chocolate cake for dessert I might add!)

The only thing I’d do different is that the next time I go anywhere with the children (if I go anywhere with the children) I need to book into a hotel with a bar…there were times I needed a moment or two to myself. But all in all…it turned out just fine.

As we sat there in the Anne musical…my daughters seated on either side of me…something I dearly wanted them to understand and “get” the way I did when I was young…I looked at my kids. All three had smiles on their faces…glimmers in their eyes…and they saw what I wanted them to see.

So, Mom and Dad…thanks for the supper when we got home…and thanks for taking me to the Island when I was young. Thanks for the family trips…the awful car rides…the bickering and fighting…the trip to California when we were teens…the endless summers of drives to St. John’s on that awful ferry (the one to PEI isn’t too bad!) Thanks for all the happy and not so happy family drives through the years with me and my brothers in the backseat…twisting each others arms….licking each other’s ice cream…pestering and poking and kicking and fighting. When are we going to get there. That’s not the way you go. He’s on my side. Don’t make me stop this car and come back there. I need to pee.

Thanks for every single one of those moments.

It was the perfect family bonding vacation.

And I’m glad I’m home.
