Queen’s 12th update…

I can’t count!  Last month I wrote the “Queens 13th update” but I somehow skipped the number twelve!  I’ve never been great with math… evident from a lovely meal at Gib’s where her seven year old was pounding times tables at me while I had to suffer through the look of shock on the child’s face as I got a few wrong… but whatever.  I explained to her that it’s mostly the sevens that get me and she seemed to understand… sort of!  Anyway… I’m calling this one the 12th even though it’s the 13th.  Next month’s will be the 14th… or maybe I’ll be smart and call it the “Queen’s 7×2 Update”… we’ll see.

I had a few laughs with the boys I grew up with this month including a great night out at Durty Nelly’s, a fabulous lunch at the Westin Hotel’s Elements (where the Tandoori Chicken was about the best thing I’ve eaten in forever) and a run-in at a fundraiser where me and my buddy could be found giggling like fools in the back of the room!  I’m always happy when I’m with them… it’s comfortable having friendships that go back decades… like sinking into an old couch that just knows you.  I can honestly say I miss them when I don’t see them for a while… but lucky for me, they’re never too far away.  In the meantime, I’m having a ball with my girlfriends and adding new ones to the mix on a regular basis.  There’s some really great people out there if you just take the time to open your heart and let them in.  There was a time I believed I could only belong to a small circle of friends… however, my life is more rewarding with each new friend I meet and that goes for Claudia and Jane… two wonderful women I laughed endlessly with last night!

I missed having an O for a bit but finally got it back!  My computer bit the dust… blue screened in the middle of writing a Chapter in my chances-are-it-will-never-be-published book… leaving me without a computer for a few days.  Happily there’s a second laptop in the house the kids use but it’s missing the letter “O”.  They don’t have an issue with it as taking your time and pushing the button down hard makes the letter appear… however, as a touch typist, it made typing incredibly difficult.  Eventually my computer came back fixed and I was astounded how much I’d missed writing over that few days.  I took the time to meet with a few potential advertisers and am happy to welcome “Silk Purse Decor” to the blog.  Michelle lives in Halifax and is a home stager as well as an interior decorator.  She established her business in London, Ontario then moved her family back to Halifax just a short time ago.  Click on the link to check out some before and after photos and give her a call to help out with decorating and color choices… or if you’re selling your house and in need of a purge!  It’s time for a few Spring projects and I’m quite sure Michelle can help!
Post:  Hw can I blg like this…

With my computer down for the count, I started to feel bad about not posting so I hauled a blog I wrote last year but never posted out of my “drafts” folder… besides the fact that it’s boring, it didn’t need any work so it became the post that day.  I’ve forty posts in that drafts folder in various stages of development… most of them were written on days I was really ticked off so they’ll probably never see the light of day… and in fact, I’ve even deleted a few… not really interested in keeping the memory.  It’s been a month of purging brought on by the fact that the rain hasn’t stopped falling and I’ve been stuck in this house. I’ve emptied every closet and cubby and am in the process of reorganizing it all back together… among the things I’ve thrown out or given away are multiple bags of “too small” clothes from my fast growing 11 year old, a dishwasher, a few old coffee tables and crap electronic equipment. The house feels messy but lighter… much to do this week to put it all back together but I’m seeing the light at the end of it all.  After that… I’m attacking the garage!!
Post: Crocs…

I spent an entire day glued to the tv absolutely fascinated by the Royal Wedding while wearing my fascinator!  I gotta tell you… a miniature hat clipped to your hair with a black veil half covering one side of your face is damn sexy!  I’d wear it out more often… but I can’t think of a single place I could go where I could appropriately pull it off… unless it’s a place with a pole… OMG a fire station!!!  (And since I’m on the topic… congratulations to my friend Kenny Mitchell who last week graduated as one of our newest firefighters… chances are you’ll see him in next year’s calendar.)  Anyway, back to the wedding, I watched with my two girls and a half dozen friends… we drank tea and ate crumpets and it was simply lovely.  I sent out invitations and spent some time duplicating them to look exactly like the ones the Queen sent out (the real Queen that is!)  They looked fabulous… reminding me why I’m going into Graphic Design in September.  The events of the entire month reminded me how I want more from my life.  I’ve reached the point where I realize I can have everything I desire… and I’m bloody well worth it!

I opened a store with Zazzle!  I thought it would be fun to make a few coffee mugs and next thing you know I was having a blast designing t-shirts.  So far not a single person has made a purchase but only two people ever bought me a coffee on the “Go ahead… buy me a coffee” PayPal link on the right side of the blog which was meant to work like a busker’s tip hat… if you liked what I was writing you’d throw a bit of money my way…. but that didn’t happen.  I didn’t have my hopes up for selling t-shirts and mugs either but OMG I’m having a blast designing them and think I’m absolutely hilarious!  You should take a look!  I made my own graphic of a crown for the mugs and even drew a “muffin” so I could make all my skinny friends “Muffin Tops”.  This week I made a “Married is the new Single” shirt which is seriously one of the best sayings I’ve ever come up with!  I might even buy one myself as I keep running into these married men on-line and downtown and it’s got me thinking it’s a weird, weird world out there.

I’ve been deeply absorbed in the music of Adele… still quite shocked I hadn’t heard of her before and thrilled that I finally have. It’s amazing that a 23 year old woman knows who I am so well… which only reminds me that we’re all so much alike. I was disappointed when I finally poured myself a glass of wine and removed the liner notes to discover they didn’t contain the lyrics… but I looked them up on the computer and sang along to every word of the most amazing songs I’ve heard in a long time. I can’t really pick a favorite (except maybe for this one) as each reminds me of a different situation with a different love or loss I’ve had through the years… more than my share. I think the line “I know I have a fickle heart and bitterness, and a wandering eye, and a heaviness in my head” suits me better than any lyric I’ve heard before. I’m happy that someone has finally given me the words I’ve never been able to write and I’ve heard from many of you who feel the same. Mr. Paul Lamb took a moment to post a comment on the blog… telling me I was able to describe the music the way he felt it. Well… since I have a blog and I can tell you about music I love… let me tell you again about Paul.  About once a month, I head out with my Tweeps and take in the matinee at the Lower Deck to listen to Paul Lamb and Cory Tetford play some fabulous tunes… changing the moods of everyone in the pub. Yesterday in particular I’d had a crap day… for no other reason than I let a few bad memories overtake me… temporarily. I headed out in the hopes that I could shake the nasty feeling… and within seconds of the boys hitting the stage, my mood changed with Paul singing Lyle Lovett’s “If I had a Boat” and Cory pulling off another amazing rendition of Ray Charles’s “Georgia”.  Paul and Wreckhouse just put out a new CD titled “Undercover Overused”… I’ll let you know when you can get them online… but until then, drop into a live performance and purchase a CD… I promise you won’t be disappointed!
Post: Adele…

My kids have had a busy month.  The Tall Blond is settling back into home life after her year away at university.  It’s taking a bit of getting used to for both of us!  She quickly found a job and is happily putting in a number of hours a week at a local restaurant.  When not working she’s sleeping, napping, cuddling with the dog, or enjoying time with friends.  I’m happy to have her friends back and forth the house again… I didn’t realize how much I missed them until they all started showing up again!  Spiderman is greatly enjoying his stint with the Nova Scotia Voyageurs… he’s learning quite a bit and hopefully it will give him a little edge as he heads into Bantam next year.  He’s hounding me for a cell phone and I might have to soon give in… at least before I start school in the fall as it seems he’s one of the last kids to get a phone… and I suck!  My youngest is back at Restless Pines… thrilled to be riding again.  She had a few falls in the Winter and took a bit of time off to rebuild her confidence.  The break did her good… and I’m thrilled she’s back in the saddle as she has a pure love for those beasts.  She’s going through a major growth spurt at the moment and I can hardly keep up with her… but I’m trying my best!  The three of them managed to spoil me for Mother’s Day which began with tea and presents in my bed followed by an amazing breakfast and a relaxing day.  They really are pretty amazing kids… and I’m pretty lucky to be their mom.

Other than that, it’s been a busy month in the neighbourhood.  There’s been an Easter Egg Hunt,  a movie premiere, a 40th birthday party, a few barbecue suppers with Gib, Prada arriving with wine glasses with each of our names engraved on them (yes Little-One, there’s one for you) and kids running in and out of the house on an hourly basis.  I’m truly happy with where I am… and the people who surround me… and that about sums things up…

until the next update.
