Elf the Musical…

Up until Friday night, I couldn’t see two hours past my overstuffed calendar to figure out where I could possibly fit in purchasing Christmas gifts let alone hauling out the decorations, trimming the tree and stringing lights outside! Now, suddenly, everything’s looking a little brighter…thanks to an Elf!

Bones and I headed to Neptune for a much-anticipated night out to see “Elf the Musical.” She’d dragged me to the Bedford parade just the weekend before, not entirely getting me into the mood as I’d much on my plate and was too stressed to be sitting there waiting for Santa.

But Elf…he dragged the chill out of my frosty heart with his goofy smile, well placed jokes and ridiculous dancing.

Added to that…the smile on my daughter’s face was so infectious I was torn between watching the show and watching her.

She’s been begging me to let her write a blog so I told her to write a few words about Elf… and here’s her review:

“Elf is a hilarious family musical that I could watch again. It’s one of those things that can even put a smile on a grumpy old man’s face if you know what I mean. I think everyone should get a chance to see something like this. It’s a great experience and kids would love it just like I did. Get tickets to Elf before it all sells out. It’s guaranteed to make you laugh.”

And OH how she laughed!

Neptune, once again, did not disappoint. With a fabulous set design and a wonderful cast, Elf managed to capture my heart from the very first act.

Elf is the story of Buddy who, as a baby, got stuck in Santa’s sack, taken to the North Pole and raised as an Elf until he discovered he was a human and left for New York to find his Dad!

What he found was a bunch of folks not in the spirit of the holidays and a father so busy and stressed with the pile of work in front of him that he’d no time to spend with his kids let alone allow Christmas to happen as life is tough and work pays the bills and there’s stuff to be doing and paperwork to shred and no time for trees or lights let alone house cleaning and laundry and how the heck can you fit it all in with hockey and riding and school work and all the kid wants is a little attention and ohhhhhhhh…

I didn’t see that coming.

It’s time to celebrate. Turn up the music and light up the lights. In his own crazy way that foolish Elf added a little Sparkle Jolly Twinkle Jingle to the days ahead while making me realize I’ve been a bit of a cotton-headed ninny-muggins!

Elf the Musical is a perfect way to start the season! It can even put a smile on a grumpy old man’s face.

If you know what I mean.
