“Mom and Girl” weekend…

It’s not like me to miss a hockey tournament. But, for reasons well beyond my control, I found myself home this weekend while Spiderman headed off with his team. Luckily, my friend Red kept me in stitches with one text after the next giving me a play-by-play of what was happening on the ice.

A sample conversation of texts would include something like “Spiderman’s on the ice“…followed twenty seconds later by…”He’s off“…then one minute later…”He’s on again!

My favorite… “Spiderman’s looking strong!  Wait…never mind…he fell. Wait a second… he’s up again! I told you he was strong

Then…”Spiderman scored! What a shot. He’s on Fire!” Followed by “You should be embarrassed, your son just got two minutes for roughing. He’s not being raised very well.” And later… “Spiderman almost got in a fight! What’s wrong with that boy’s mother!!!

And… “He’s got a C on his jersey! They named him Captain! You’re such a good mama!”

For an hour and a bit, on four different occasions, Red kept me on the edge of my seat while she texted the plays that included various photos and sound clips reminding me that I have…by far…the most amazing, insane, friends anyone could ever hope for.

On top of that, it was a total, unexpected, “bonus weekend” as Bones decided not to go to the hockey tournament and, since I didn’t have anything on the go, she stayed home to spend the weekend with me! We turned it into a “girls gone wild” weekend… easy on the wild.

It was “mom and girl” time. Sitting around chatting, cuddling and enjoying one another’s company thrown in with visits to the market, trips to our favorite stores, a couple of restaurants, times with friends and quite a few laughs over the texts Red sent! It was one moment after the next of much-needed time spent together.

With all of the craziness in our home… me being at school and a calendar stuffed with sporting activities, it’s incredibly difficult to get one-on-one time with either of the kids and while I was disappointed I couldn’t go to the tournament, it was absolutely, without a doubt, one of the best weekends I’ve had in a very long time.

Just me and my girl…and a whack of crazy texts!

On a side note, while Red is a pretty phenomenal sports commentator, she’s also the owner of Mudwraps to Manicures!

This Wednesday they’ll be having an all day sale to celebrate 12-12-12. Drop in for some fabulous specials and meet my hilarious friend. Bring your daughters for a little “Mom and Girl” time… or leave them at home, for a little time to yourself!
