#TBT…

I greatly enjoy Thursdays on Instagram.

Scrolling through the photos people post of when they were new moms or children themselves. Seeing things from a different perspective…maybe a simpler time. Being able to share photos that were taken before photo sharing, the way it is now, was even a possibility. Photos that reside in books…or shoeboxes…long since forgotten.

I love seeing them.

It’s kind of nice to remember. To know that you weren’t the only one with the wild perm or the too baggy pants. To reminisce when the kids were young or relive moments of your childhood and teen years. The nostalgic feeling…it’s rather sweet.

When Netflix came up with this month’s theme of Throwback Thursday…encouraging us to watch a few old movies and TV shows…it kind of felt the same way. I well remember the “Molly Ringwald” years…Pretty in Pink and Breakfast Club being a few of my favourite movies along with Dirty Dancing and Pretty Woman. Watching them again brings back a fabulous feeling…remembering who I watched them with…the music and laughter….the thoughts that maybe a prince will come and swoop you off your feet! I remember trying to dress like my favourite characters…wearing my hair the same way…dancing to pure abandon when Footloose and Flashdance hit the big screen. Those were the good ol’ days.

Along with the movies…I remember curling up with my family and a big bowl of popcorn in our family room to catch the latest episode of Diff’rent Strokes, The Facts of Life, Fresh Prince or The Cosy Show. Life seemed simpler somehow and yet, it probably wasn’t. Maybe a few less gadgets…a few less distractions…more time spent as a family where “What’s up Willis” was said on more than one occasion and the argument over who was cuter…Tootie or Blair…seemed important somehow!

It’s Throwback Thursday.

Open the photo albums and post your old pictures…laugh at the 80s hair and clothes (that seem to be coming back). Curl up on the couch with a bowl of popcorn to enjoy a few retro shows. Introduce your children to your childhood…complete with Toni Perms and Acid Wash jeans!

There’s nothing like remembering…and sharing the memories with those you love.
