Queen’s 20th Update…

I haven’t written a “Queen’s Update” in so long it’s not even funny! So, here’s a re-cap on the last few months of blogging with updates on the various posts.

I still find it baffling that I’m the mom of a twenty year old. The Tall Blonde left the teen years just in time for Spiderman and Bones to burst into them with both feet! In fact… large, gargantuan, humongous feet as both are growing faster than I can possibly keep up. I’m a proud mom and have little difficulty bragging about my wonderful kids… and this blog is the perfect place to do it!
Happy Birthday to Me…

I got a kick out of the comment I received from “Charlene”… the woman at the hairdresser’s who told me how awesome the “Curtains are Open” blog was and how she was a big fan… not realizing that I was the writer! It’s awesome to run into people who read… and nice to know that from time to time, I’m entertaining a few of you!
I nearly dyed…

I wrote a post about the popular shoes TOMS… and what makes them so awesome. My girlfriend, Red, carries them at her spa and you’ll be happy to know that just this week she unpacked a brand new shipment of the sparkly ones!!! Head into Mudwraps to Manicures so you, and a child in need, can own a pair too!

To figure out what all the hype was about, I read all three Hunger Game’s books and headed to the movie… courtesy of Alliance Films. I wholly admit that while the entire concept freaks me out… I’m equally enthralled. On top of that… I heard that the handsome Dr. Avery from Grey’s Anatomy has signed on for the part of the beautiful “Finnick” for the next movie! Now THAT I have to see!!!
The Hunger Games…

Speaking of Alliance Films, they provided the readers of Curtains, tickets to “Mirror Mirror” and “Salmon Fishing in the Yemen.” It was great to be able to do the giveaways and I look forward to more as the blog continues to grow. From time to time, I’m asked to test a product or give something away but to be honest, it has to fit with the feel of the blog and what I believe my readers are interested in… plus, I’m not too interested in giving away “free advertising” for a salad spinner! With that said, visit the advertisers and supporters of Curtains are Open by clicking on their logos on the right side of the blog… it will take you to their websites and the wonderful products and services they offer!
Mirror Mirror… and Fishin’ for a Man…

Being a hockey mom, I write a lot of posts about hockey… none of them more poignant than the post I wrote after meeting Mark Star… in town to honour his mom by presenting a trophy at the Joe Lamontagne March Break Tournament. It’s amazing to watch these young hockey players grow through sport… and as a parent, it’s simply wonderful to be a part of it. Currently, Spiderman is spending time on the ice with the Voyageurs Spring Hockey Program and just finished try-out camp with the Accel Hawks Major Bantam team. He has great hope for his future in hockey and I do as well. He… to make an NHL team. Me… to watch him develop into the wonderful young man I met a few months ago… who honored his Mom in such a beautiful way.
Irene Star Memorial Cup…

Many have asked if I ever heard from “the boy” I met who changed the way I thought about the possibility of someday having another man in my life. Well… I did. He emailed to tell me he’d read my post and liked what I’d had to say. Awww shucks! A few weeks after, I ran into his friend who out of nowhere grabbed a hold of me and told me how awesome I was!!  It was a funny moment to be totally honest and I was taken a wee bit off guard. Bottom line about the entire experience, as it had many family members and friends calling me to find out who this boy was and whether or not I’d see him again… it had nothing and everything to do with the particular person and more to do with how he made me feel. For me… it was one of those “life changing moments” where a light suddenly went off in a very dark place! I have no misconceptions of running away with this particular person and joining the circus… but he made me realize that I could… someday… finally… feel like I could meet someone… who’d make we want to join the circus with them! Which for someone, who thought they’d had enough of circuses for a lifetime… it’s kind of, totally, really, pretty awesome.
I met a boy…

My dog, Zucchini, is a big part of my happiness. She’s funny and goofy and unconditionally loving and can absolutely read me like no one I’ve known which is why I put a halt on everything that was happening in my life in order to baby her for a few days when faced with a claw issue involving minor surgery. She lay on top of me for two solid days… needing me desperately until I began to realize she was taking advantage of my love and devotion… and kicked her off my lap! She’s 100% better now… thanks for asking!
Curve ball…

It says a lot about our parenting when I had several comments from readers about how I made them laugh… at The Tall Blondes’ expense… with my explanation of the week she went blind!
Laughter… the best medicine…

It’s taken me awhile but I’m finally starting to enjoy my Rebel T2i and the pictures that are coming out of it! I’m still not entirely sure how to use it or what buttons to press… but I’m finding myself picking it up more often and snapping pictures of a variety of things. The best part of it all… I didn’t fail my photography course!!
I took this…

Yup… plans are, this summer, to finish writing my book and see about getting it published! In the meantime, my favorite blogger, The Bloggess, just published her brand new book “Let’s Pretend this Never Happened” and it’s number one on the NASDAQ report or one of those judgy book places. I haven’t grabbed my copy yet as I know I’ll not be able to put it down and I’m committed to school work for another few weeks. Oh… and speaking of awesome bloggers and wonderful books… another favourite blogger, Alison DeLory, just published a children’s book “Lunar Landing.” You can find both at Chapters where hopefully, someday, you’ll see mine too!
It’s about time…

I’ve thanked my readers again and again for all you’ve given me… and happily celebrated you on my 2nd Blogiversary!
Happy 2nd Blogiversary…

I wrote about my friend Crazy… and how she gave me my first migraine. I blame her… who else would I blame!
Out on a limb…

A few days ago, I clicked on the “Kickin’ it Old School” label to read all of the posts I’ve written about returning to school… starting with a post I wrote the day I got my acceptance letter and finishing with a post about a party I threw a few weeks ago. It’s unreal to realize that just a few months before, I was so terrified to enter the building I now feel so at home in. It helps that I’m surrounded by amazing teachers and supportive classmates. For anyone out there facing the same fears as I faced… wondering whether or not they should head back to school while thinking they’ll be the oldest, dumbest, slowest person in the classroom… I can’t begin to tell you how tired you’ll be… how much you’ll miss spending time with your kids… how your house will fall apart and every spare moment will be spent catching up on homework and trying to stay ahead of your life… but how absolutely rewarding and wonderful it will be!
Those who can teach… do… and What happens in the “Meatlocker”…

A label I’m not interested in clicking on and reading from beginning to end is “Damn Divorce.” However, if you’ve got some things going on in your own personal life and want to see how I fared through mine… click on the various labels on the right hand side. You’ll find all the topics I write about.
My un-anniversary…

All this blogging is bringing me places… landing me on the top five list with the 2011 Ninjamatics Weblog awards for Life and Parenting, being nominated with them again for 2012 in three categories and finding myself on the Top Ten Mommy Bloggers list with She Knows Canada! Seriously… who knows where else the bloggigng will take me! Every time I’m recognized for my writing and contribution to the blogging community I’m thrilled beyond explanation!! Eventually, I’d like to make it to a blogging conference as I’m pretty sure there’s lots I can learn… and I’d love to meet some of the wonderful people I’m following! To stay up-to-date and hear what folks have to say, follow me on Facebook or Twitter… to find some wonderful blogs you might not know about, click on the “Blogs I Follow” tab on the menu bar at the top of this page.
I’m a Mommy Blogger…

Bones and Spiderman arrived home from their Florida trip with plenty of stories to keep me chuckling for days. They rode roller coasters, swam with dolphins and fed giraffes… a few of the highlights of their trip. The Tall Blonde won’t be home for almost two weeks. She’s currently touring Shanghai and enjoying every moment of a trip with her grandfather and family friends… seeing a new part of the world. Me… I don’t see travelling in the near future unless some company wants to sponsor me for one of these blogging conferences! I’m anxiously anticipating our annual “Girls Weekend” in Malagash… where I could definitely use a little R&R!
Flying solo…

I heard from my Godfather again… he’d like updates whenever I write a new post and I’m not sure how to do that. Folks have told me to add an RSS feed but again… not sure how to do that and while I’m pretty sure it’s not difficult… I’ve got a whack of stuff on my plate at the moment so I’ve added it to the ever-growing to-do list! To be totally honest, as soon as school is over, my plan is to re-design the entire blog (have I mentioned I’m studying graphic and web design) and move it over to WordPress where I’ll have a bit more flexibility. Stay tuned for a new look!
I am your faaatheeerrrr…

And finally… about that root canal… while the procedure didn’t hurt in any way whatsoever, for several days following I was sore… leading my Endodontist friend, Glenn, emailing me with directions for wearing that cone!!! While I can handle the soreness, I’m looking forward to going to my regular dentist on Monday (weird that I’m “looking forward” to going to the dentist) to have the temporary filling exchanged for a permanent one.  I can’t wait to start chewing on both sides of my mouth again… and maw into a huge hunk of steak!
Root canal…

Well… guess that’s it! I’ve a few weeks before school is over and hopefully, at that point, I’ll find more time to write! My life is changing in leaps and bounds… a little faster than I can keep pace with… but I’m having a ball every single day! Except for the ones where I’m not!
