Have you watched Stranger Things on Netflix?

I’ll be completely honest with you…I’m a bit of a wimp when it comes to anything freaky so I’ve avoided it like the plague…choosing instead to drown myself in romcoms and light-hearted happy shows.

Plus…this trailer made me nervous!

But, I keep getting pulled in by the conversations and characters and I absolutely loved an interview I saw recently with Millie Bobby Brown who plays “Eleven” on the show. The interview showcased an incredibly adorable, sweet, spunky and brilliant young woman, and yet I have a feeling her character might not quite portray the happy and spirited young woman I saw on the talk show!!!

My plan is to watch Stranger Things this weekend…being that it’s Halloween and all.

Plus, my friend Matt Bustin (illustrator of my book cover and absolutely wonderful artist), turned a Jack o’Lantern into a remarkable likeness of “Eleven” and he thinks the show is absolutely brilliant.

I asked him a few questions and without giving away any spoilers…here’s what he said:

Explain what Stranger Things is about.

It’s about a small town in the early 80s that suddenly starts to have mysterious disappearances. The local police chief, who has led a very quiet career, takes on this case. As well, a group of young boys whose friend is one of the victims, is determined to find him alive. The title is very appropriate as strange things and characters continue to slow them down and pile up, as the mystery grows and grows.

What show would you compare it to?

If I were to compare it to anything, it’s almost like ET meets Signs.

What do you like most about the show?

I think having been a young boy who loved adventure, monsters and mysteries, this show really captures me and emulates the imagination of an 11-year-old boy.

Who is your favourite character?

My favourite character is Chief Hopper. He’s a jaded man with a great heart, has had a hard life which gives him his hard exterior. He develops a lot as the show goes on and to me, is kind of the “Han Solo” of the show. Excellent character.

What made you decide to carve Eleven?

I chose her because I think she’s very current and people like current. Probably the most recognizable character in the show and likely a future star. Great actress with a lot of promise.

So…with all this in mind, I’m more intrigued about Stranger Things than ever. If I get a little freaked out watching it this weekend…I’m turning on something light and fluffy like the Fresh Prince of Bell-Air!

Here’s Matt’s carving from last year!

What are you watching on Netflix right now?

Check out Stranger Things and Fresh Prince…they have absolutely nothing in common. Unless you count getting carved on a pumpkin!

  1. I totally agree with Matt about the chief. He’s a good egg. Awesome carving skills! I tend to mess up the hole around the stem so colour me VERY impressed.
