Wish List Wednesday (Week 1)

About this Post: For ten Wednesdays leading up to the holidays, I’ll share with you some of my favourite things (a la Oprah Winfrey) in these “Wish List Wednesday” posts. Click on the links where you can purchase online, or visit their shops where they’d be delighted to see you! All products come from local businesses, that have surely felt the sting of this pandemic. Be sure to visit them, and follow them on social media. If you have a shop you think I should feature, please send me a message.

There are ELEVEN Wednesdays left until Christmas Eve!

It feels early to think about the holidays…but this year, being that 2020 has been full of surprises…anything can happen.

And…everything has happened!!

Many folks still aren’t comfortable heading into stores but the thing is, local businesses NEED folks in their stores. So…keeping this in mind, I thought I’d show you a few of my FAVOURITE THINGS found each week online…at local shops around Atlantic Canada.

I won’t be sharing on Wednesday, November 11th. On that day, there are far more important things to think about.

So…for the next TEN Wednesdays leading up to the holidays, I’ll show you some of my favourite things found online, at local shops, and by local crafts people, in my attempt to help spread the word about some fabulous places.

Each week, I’ll share with you something cozy, something shiny, something to wear, something tasty, something that makes me smile, and something for the home.

SOMETHING COZY:

The Kept Shop in Dartmouth is filled with various treasures including candles, home decor, kitchenware, jewelry, and art. It’s a special place filled with beautiful items absolutely everywhere you look as they have this fabulous way of merchandising their shop.

A little on the luxury side, I’m rather smitten with their extra thick woolen blanket. It would be perfect in my bedroom on my pretty ladies couch…the pink, absolutely lovely.

Click on the photo for more details and be sure to spend some time poking around their online shop where new products are added quite often. You can visit their store in Dartmouth at 75 King Street where they also do cubside pickup. And make sure to follow them on Instagram.

SOMETHING SHINY:

While Inglis Jewellers in Truro is known for their amazing diamond rings…check out these fabulous silver bangles! I’m a fan of an armload of silver bracelets…so these tickle my fancy!

Shop online at Inglis Jewellers, visit one of their locations in Downtown Truro, New Glasgow, Riverview, and Sydney…or follow along on Instagram to see all of the things they have in store.

SOMETHING TASTY:

Nothing tastes better than a box of chocolates…and these ones from Rousseau Chocolatier are my favourite!

Made in-house (5151 South Street, Halifax), you can order online and enjoy with friends, gift to someone you love…or eat them one by one…ALL BY YOURSELF! Honestly, what a perfect treat to enjoy through the holidays!

SOMETHING FUNNY:

FUNNY!!! Cassy from Classy Cards has that unique sense of humour that often has me chuckling over her cards, wall art, calendars, and wine labels.

Re-stocked for the holidays for a limited time, you can purchase their “Stay the Blazes Home” glassware.

Take a peek through their online shop and place your orders early…you’ll surely find something for everyone on your list (especially for those with the same sense of humour as me!)

SOMETHING TO WEAR:

Have your heard of The Curated Root? Imagine someone with amazing taste (and an even better personality), acting as your personal shopper…buying fabulous things and then selling them at discounted prices.

From boots, shoes, coats, dresses, blouses, pants and more…Tiffany has curated a collection of Women’s, Men’s and Children’s clothes, accessories and household items…that are absolutely fabulous.

Visit her shop online, or book an appointment to visit for a personal shopping experience.

SOMETHING FOR THE HOUSE:

I’m a fan of Emma Fitzgerald’s art prints…showcasing so many of my favourite spots around Halifax like EDNA! (Anyone know when they’re going to open back up?)

Visit Ikwell Modern Handmade online to see so many treasures, or visit their lovely shop at 2011 Brunswick Street in Halifax. As well, they’ll virtually shop with you and they offer porch drop delivery and curbside pickup!

SOMETHING FROM ME:

While I’m happy to support local businesses, I’d be super happy to have your support as well!

This holiday, ask your family to share their favourite holiday memories, foods, stories, and traditions…and I’ll help you put together a customized piece that will be treasured for years to come. More than any time…we all want to feel connected when we aren’t able to be together.

Visit my Etsy shop to order a customized print for the holidays, or take a peek at the custom birthday, wedding, and baby shower gifts. AND, be sure to follow my graphic design shop on Instagram at Drawbridge Creative , or my blog on Instagram at Queen of Curtains.

ALL DONE BUT THE WRAPPING!

And that’s a wrap for this Wednesday! Pop into all of the links and take a peek around the stores I’ve suggested, visit them in person if you can, and make sure to follow them on social. It’s so important that we help out local businesses as we head into the holiday season as 2020 has surely been tough on so many entrepreneurs!

Happy Shopping!
Colleen

  1. Great list! I would also add Vicky Mina Makeup to my Wish List, she has an amazing way of making women feel (and look) beautiful. And her make up line is fantastic quality.
