Wish List Wednesday (Week 3)

About this Post: For ten Wednesdays leading up to the holidays, I’ll share with you some of my favourite things (ala Oprah Winfrey) in these “Wish List Wednesday” posts. Click on the links where you can purchase online, or visit their shops where they’d be delighted to see you! All products come from local businesses, that have surely felt the sting of this pandemic. Be sure to visit them, and follow them on social media. If you have a shop you think I should feature, please send me a message.

Well…Week 1 and Week 2 of Wish List Wednesday were a great success! Folks are clicking on the links and sending me messages! All I can say…keep clicking and ordering from these locally owned Atlantic Canadian shops!

Here goes Week 3 as I showcase some of my favourite things and find something cozy, something shiny, something to wear, something tasty, something that makes me smile, and something for the home.

SOMETHING COZY:

Growing up, my Nan always knit us cozy sweaters, socks, and mittens…truly a labour of love.

Nonia in St. John’s, Newfoundland, is a shop I love to visit whenever I’m on the Island. Their socks are a work of art and I’m happy to own a few pairs (but could always do with more!) BUT CHECK OUT THESE MITTENS!

If you’re in St. John’s, visit their shop on Water Street or catch them at the holiday craft fairs…for everyone else, you can order online where you’ll see a sampling of their products. But also, if you see something they’ve posted on Facebook, give them a call to order!

SOMETHING SHINY:

A number of years ago, a friend gave me a wooden elephant candle holder.

She told me a story about elephants…that when one is sick or in need, the other elephants in the group gather around the elephant in need, pushing their bodies against hers and keeping her standing…until she can finally support herself.

These earrings from The Vault, are the perfect way to let a friend know, that you’re there to support her.

Through the years, I’ve purchased a number of things at The Vault, an independently owned jewellery store in Halifax with locations on Spring Garden Road and in the Halifax Shopping Centre, It tends to be my go-to jewellery store as they have special treasures from Canadian designers…and always have the best customer service.

Visit them in person, or check them out online.

SOMETHING TASTY:

Shortbreads, cupcakes, cookies, and cakes…nothing says holidays like ALL THE TREATS and Taysty Treats has perfected the recipe!

If your “bubble” is visiting or if you need a little “after online shopping” treat, place an order with Taysty Treats or visit them on Instagram.

SOMETHING FUNNY:

While you can find your provincial tartan scarf, t-shirts, and scrunchies at My Home Mercantile…along with their Canadian “Sorry” t’s…how about REALLY showing your Canadian roots with these KETCHUP CHIP SOCKS!

Visit My Home Mercantile at Main Street, Moncton or Inglis Place, Truro…follow them on Instagram, or do a bit of online shopping for everyone on your list!

SOMETHING TO WEAR:

Y’all know I love my Blundstones! Oh My Sole in Halifax has a huge selection of boots, shoes, slippers, and sandals for absolutely everyone (click on the links to check out their fabulous slippers!) They’re known for having great brands…but also for ensuring that your comfort comes first as they sell wider sizes, orthotics, and various accessories such as braces and compression wear.

Visit their shop on Young Street in Halifax, check them out on Instagram, or order online.

SOMETHING FOR THE HOUSE:

I visited La Brise Stained Glass when I stayed at their AirBnB last year and it was AMAZING.

My plan is to purchase their beautiful stained glass bunting to string across the windows in my apartment…the perfect place to display this fabulous and colorful piece and truly one of my favourite things!

Follow La Brise Stained Glass on Instagram to see all of their fabulous pieces and visit their online shop to order. If you’re in Cape Breton, stop by and say hello (even better, stay at the lovely cottage!)

For custom bunting colours and sizes, send them a message and they’ll help put together the perfect piece for your decor.

SOMETHING FROM ME:

While I’m happy to support local businesses, I’d be super happy to have your support as well!

This holiday, ask your family to share their favourite holiday memories, foods, stories, and traditions…and I’ll help you put together a customized piece that will be treasured for years to come. More than any time…we all want to feel connected when we aren’t able to be together.

Visit my Etsy shop to order a customized print for the holidays, or take a peek at the custom birthday, wedding, and baby shower gifts. AND, be sure to follow my graphic design shop on Instagram at Drawbridge Creative , or my blog on Instagram at Queen of Curtains.

ALL DONE BUT THE WRAPPING!

And that’s another wrap! Head back up through the post and click on all of the links to peruse around the shops to find the treasures I suggested and some others you’re likely to find. It’s so important that we help out local businesses as we head into the holiday season as 2020 has surely been tough on so many entrepreneurs!

Happy Shopping!
Colleen
